Historic Record: Uzbekistan`s Gold and Foreign Exchange Reserves Exceed USD 61 Billion

The volume of Uzbekistan's gold and foreign exchange reserves set a historical record last month. As of December 1, the total value of international assets reached USD 61.2 billion.

Over the month, the reserves increased by USD 1.89 billion, showing a growth of 3.2%, while since the beginning of the year, the growth is almost double – 48.49%, reports the Central Bank.

The tonnage of precious metals increased to 12.2 million troy ounces (379.4 tons). Last month, the Central Bank increased reserves by approximately 0.3 million ounces (9.3 tons).

The currency portion of the reserves decreased by USD 1 billion and currently amounts to USD 9.8 billion: USD 979.4 million is held in foreign central banks and the International Monetary Fund, and USD 7.3 billion is in accounts at other foreign credit institutions.

Also, in November, the Central Bank purchased foreign securities worth USD 1.5 billion – USD 503.3 million more than in the previous month.

Recall that in November it was reported that Uzbekistan's gold and foreign exchange reserves reached a record USD 59.3 billion. Over the month, their volume increased by more than USD 4 billion.
