AGMK launches the second phase of the project on the construction of the railway infrastructure of the Kalmakyr mine
Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK) launched the second phase of a project to build the railway infrastructure of the Kalmakyr mine, the enterprise’s press service reported.
The Kalmakyr mine is the largest mining enterprise in the CIS countries, which is the main ore base for non-ferrous metallurgy in Uzbekistan. Mining is carried out in an open-pit way, and the ore is processed at a copper processing plant. For more than half a century of existence, this mine has become one of the leading mining companies on the extraction of non-ferrous metals in the world, Sirozhiddin Manazarov, chief engineer of the industrial railway transport department at the plant, said.
According to him, in 2016, an investment project to expand and modernize the mine was completed here, bringing its design capacity to 30 million tons of ore per year.
As part of the new investment project, he noted, an increase in the design capacity of the mine and expansion of the railway transport infrastructure, the acquisition of the necessary mining transport equipment are envisaged.
"In April of this year, a set of one switch set was inserted and 0.15 km of rail grid was laid on reinforced concrete sleepers. The second switch is being assembled on the construction site, which will be installed on the new railway line. The Kalmakyr mine department specialists with which we work in parallel," Manazarov said.
To date, 107 thousand cubic meters of 276 thousand of the planned areas have been cleared during mining. As the necessary materials are received and all the preparatory work is completed, the specialists will begin construction and installation of the contact network line and the railway track.
“Production of reinforced concrete foundations, metal supports and reinforced concrete weights, which are also used during the reconstruction, are successfully carried out by other divisions of the plant. All work on this facility is completed before the end of this year,” he stressed.
AGMK is a unique mining complex, a giant of non-ferrous metallurgy and one of the largest enterprises specializing in mining and processing of rocks not only in the republic, but also in the entire Central Asian region.
Today, the company is at a new stage of its development. In August 2018, in accordance with a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the state share of the AGMK was transferred to the trust management company SFI Management Group.
