Tashkent Metallurgical Plant to produce the first products in December 2019

Tashkent Metal Works (TMZ) will issue the first cold-rolled sheet in December 2019, the enterprise’s press service reported.

The total project cost exceeds 286 million euros. The MetProm group of companies has been selected as the general contractor for the construction of the TMZ. Today, it is one of the leading design and construction organizations in the metallurgical industry in Russia.

"A year and a half ago, we started work practically from scratch, and now we are finishing construction and assembly work on the main building of the future domestic giant of metallurgy. Preparatory work is underway, including pouring the foundation for auxiliary facilities that will provide the main production with water, gas, nitrogen, hydrogen, compressed air. At this stage, we are coordinating the issues of choosing equipment suppliers for completing the entire auxiliary complex," Valery Osin said.

According to him, the supplier of the main equipment is one of the three world market leaders - the Italian company Danieli.

"At the stage of the feasibility study, the needs of the local market for steel metal products were studied. Therefore, the plant`s capacity – 500,000 tonnes of cold-rolled metal per year provides for the maximum coverage of the republic`s needs," he said.

Production will reach full capacity within two years of production, the planned share of exports will be 20 percent of total production.

Export is envisaged to such countries as Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia. In most of these countries there is no such production, and the demand for rolled metal products is significant. Entering these markets, the enterprise will compete with Russia and China.

In general, the launch of the plant will contribute to the development of related industries, such as the construction sector, automotive and household appliances.

It should be recalled that the management of the construction project of the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant is engaged in a foreign company SFI Management Group. It also manages the state’s share in other flagships of Uzbekistan’s industry, the Almalyk MMC and Uzmetkombinat.
