A tungsten complex with a capacity of up to 1 million tons of ore per year will be built in Uzbekistan

The Uzbek Technological Metals Plant began creating a tungsten complex at the Sarikul deposit in the Samarkand region. Capacity - up to 1 million tons of ore and 4000 tons of concentrate per year. The field`s lifespan is estimated to be up to 20 years.

The Uzbek Technological Metals Plant (TMK) has begun creating a tungsten complex with a capacity of up to 1 million tons of ore per year based on a deposit in the Samarkand region, the press service of the enterprise reported.

“The Uzbek Process Metals Plant is forming an integrated industrial model that covers the entire tungsten value creation cycle - upstream, midstream and downstream,” says the materials posted on the plant’s website.

The resource base of the complex will be the Sarikul tungsten deposit, located in the Nurabad district of the Samarkand region. The engineering and technological part is being developed by Australian AMC Consulting Pty Ltd and NewPro Consulting and Engineering Services Pty.

Production capacity will be up to 4,000 tons of 65 percent tungsten concentrate. The field`s lifespan is estimated to be up to 20 years.

“The development of the field will be carried out simultaneously by open-pit and underground methods, which will increase technological flexibility and safety of work,” the company added.

TMK was created in July 2024 on the basis of the research and production association “Rare Metals and Hard Alloys,” which is part of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine.

TMK plans to implement more than 70 projects in the field of critical mineral raw materials with a total value of $1.6 billion by 2028. In particular, in the next three years it is planned to launch production and processing of tungsten, lithium and molybdenum with total revenue of $1.5 billion.

Let us recall that deposits of more than 30 metals, such as tungsten, molybdenum, magnesium, lithium, germanium, graphite, vanadium and titanium, have been identified in Uzbekistan.
